“I Can save myself” ; Another Subtle Deceit by Satan

Let me assume that we all know the Genesis story of the fall of man. Let me also assume that we all know that Jesus came to restore the broken relationship between man and God because of man’s disobedience and eventual fall but what is interesting is Genesis 3:7… “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.”

Children always believe they are smarter than their parents, trying to circumvent every set rule and regulation without knowing why those rules existed in the first place, the same was for Adam and Eve. The whole idea is not to be caught disobeying but disobeying to fulfill their own pleasure and desire. The same was for Adam and Eve. Also like every child who suddenly realizes that his/her disobedience has generated a consequence that will expose that disobedience, they try to fix it by themselves with their limited wisdom and knowledge which further complicates the situation and makes the disobedience even more serious than it really was; the same was for Adam and Eve.

The consequence of their disobedience was their realization of their nakedness, which they knew God would notice, and so to fix it by themselves; they sewed fig leaves to cover themselves. It further complicated their disobedience. A simple confession and plea for mercy would probably do but Satan’s lies encourages you to believe that since you broke it, you alone can fix it. One of the deceptions of the evil One.

Let me point out a fact: there is a difference between circumventing a rule and outright rebellion to a rule. Adam and Eve did not rebel against God. 1st Samuel 15:23 says “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being King.”… Proverbs 17:11 says “A rebellious man seeks only evil, so a cruel messenger will be sent against him”.

Rebellion is like today’s mutiny and in most countries, the punishment for the crime of mutiny is death. God likened rebellion to witchcraft and a rejection of Him. Rebellion is a direct confrontation and affront to God Almighty. Like the prodigal son, they were misled. Rebellion was not Adam and Eve sin at all. That is why God did not curse then directly. For Adam, He cursed the ground to make living difficult and for Eve, He cursed the childbearing experience with pain but He still loved them the same way we still love our child even when they err.

Have you ever attempted fixing a problem secretly in order to avoid a public knowledge of your misdeed? That is the devil driving you further into error and complicating the whole situation. It never works.
