The Meaning of life subverted: Another Subtle Deceit (III)

Matthew 6:25-32 says “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”
Of particular interest that underscores these scripture is the phrase “Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?”…

Jesus was trying to differentiate between what we understand as life and what life really is. That in God’s plan, life is more than what we have accepted it to be. We have reduced life to our five senses of touch, taste, smell, see and hear but Jesus was trying(by these scripture) to say while God understands these about us, this is not the definition of life. Hence in Mark 8:36 Jesus asked “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” Because Jesus knows according to 1st Timothy 6:7 that “for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.”

This is why Jesus said Matthew 6:19-20 ““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

The meaning of life is living to serve and obey God at all times and over all things. That is why Matthew 6 ends verse 33 and 34 saying… “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

No wonder John 17: 3 says “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”. Loving and serving God with all your Heart, all your Soul and all your Mind is life… Deuteronomy 6:5 & Mark 12:30
