Hollywood and God 2

Man has many frailties and full of error. So we do not look at man to understand and have a relationship with God but we look up to Jesus. Where do we start; our father Abraham lied about Sarah been his sister and not his wife(Genesis 20:2). He doubted God’s promise of a son and slept with his servant. What about King David and Uriah’s wife(Bathsheba)? What of Gideon’s constant doubting God’s word and always demanding a confirmation? What of Israel’s constant disobedience and repentance and God forgiving them and still working great wonders amongst them. What about Peter who denied Jesus? Thomas who doubted? And all the disciples who left the gospel commission Jesus gave to them before he was crucified to go back to fishing until the Holy Spirit came and emboldened them.
Man is not the standard for judging God’s word to be worthy of obedience or not. Yes, we have Apostles, Prophets, Pastors and men who have excelled in the understanding of God’s word in it’s preaching and teaching but they never will be replaced as the gospel itself. Billy Graham once said ” Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion; it is like a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ”.

Remember Matthew 7:14 “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Psalms 103: 13-16 says this about man “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.” And Isaiah 2:22 says concerning man “Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?. Isaiah 64:6 says “… and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;…”

Back to the movie; Yes, God, Yes. The hypocrisy of the Reverend Father can not negate or bring to nothing the word of God. We look up to Jesus(not Pastors or Priests ) the Author and Finisher of our Faith. The movie used a human weakness to discredit God and His Word and gave a reason to disobey God.

Some might argue that they did not directly discredit God and His Word but showed the hypocrisy in the church but according to the Bible, the church is not just the creation of God but the bride of Jesus Christ and the command not to be involved in sexually Immorality is God’s command through church… Galatians 5:19.

The church and God is like the yolk of an egg and the eggshell. You cannot touch the church without touching God and once you touch God, you have touched His Word and Hollywood knows this and that is always the idea.

Then there is the title itself vis-a-vis the “lust/masturbation” thing. Is it the moaning words said during sexual arousal’s of any kind but in this case, during masturbating? Or are they simply saying “God says yes to masturbation”. Whichever it is, IT IS STILL CALLING THE NAME OF THE LORD IN VAIN and it is SIN. Exodus 20:7“Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

But as a disclaimer, Romans 6:1-2 says “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Ezekiel 18:20….”The soul that sinneth, it shall die…” And Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” And Romans 8:13“For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”

Over all, the movie is amongst the many Hollywood mockeries of God but what makes this one a little different is the constant and firm use of the words like righteousness, holiness, God, Jesus, salvation, etc. It almost looked like a real Christian movie until I remembered where I had seen the lead actress before…Natalier Dyer(Stranger Things)
