God’s Favour Is always Earned.

Was listening to Audio Bible and heard something interesting in the book of Ruth and so decided to study it. These facts were outstanding;

1. Divine favour does not happen by chance. You, the Recipient might not know why you are favoured because you are overwhelmed by it but be rest assured it happened for a reason. Either it is what you have done in the past(you obviously did not consider as anything worthy of heaven’s applaud) or by your life style and character in the present, if granted favor, you will do heaven’s will(knowingly or unknowingly). Ruth is an embodiment of both factors. In Ruth 2:11, Boaz said to Ruth “And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.”(the past). And verse 18 says “And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.”(the present). Remember Matthews 5:7 ” Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy”

2. Chapter 3 is very instructive and emphasis Paragraph 1. Naomi in verse 4 says “When he lies down, note the place where he is lying. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what to do.”(emphasis mine) And after all that happened, Naomi again says in verse 18 “Then Naomi said, “Wait, my daughter, until you find out what happens. _For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today.” (emphasis mine)… Her words were very “certain and precise“, almost like Naomi knew exactly what the reaction of “Boaz” would be and the final outcome while being in her own home. Since the Bible did not say Naomi was a sorceress or a prophetess and if we go by 2nd Kings 6:8-10, then those instructions were God’s in the place of prayer. James 5:16(B) says “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Naomi had prayed, God had given Naomi directions for Ruth. So Ruth was actually following God’s direction unknown to her, hence the success…Again, Ruth might be overwhelmed by this level of favor(not knowing why she deserves it) but secretly it didn’t happen by chance, someone(Naomi) prayed.

3. Lastly, God never contradicts Himself. If we feel confused or see a contradiction in our service to God, it’s not coming from God’s end of the relationship. It’s coming from ours. He will not breaks His already set principles because He loves You and wants to help you…No. God still walks within His set boundaries for you to accomplish great miracles. Boaz in chapter 3:12-13 makes it clear to Ruth that he wants to marry her but there is a process and procedure that has to be followed because he is not the eldest guardian-redeemer in the family and in chapter 14 Boaz followed those processes and procedures. If you are not convinced, check out the birth of our Lord Himself. God created the world in seven days but His Son had to be in a womb like every other baby for Nine months. Process and procedure. God is not bound by it but some how, not to cause confusion, He binds himself. For instance, the Bible says in Deuteronomy 28:12 “The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.”. For God to bless you, you must have a job or as it is called in the Bible; a labor, a handwork. God will not reign money from the sky’s or make them grow like trees. Also you must be diligent at the job too. Proverbs 22:29 says “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”. This is why God says in 2nd Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

So if you want God to bless you financially, will get a job first and be very diligent at the job. Don’t seat at home, day-dreaming about been a millionaire and expect God to honour your “wishes”. That for genies in movies like Aladdin.

This also applies to other aspects of life like tribulations, trials and challenges of life. In John 16:33 the Lord Himself said “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Because He has said we will face challenges in this world, you cannot pray away a challenge and if God will help you, you will go through that challenge and in(not outside) the challenge, He will help you. That’s why 1st Corinthians 3:10 says “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
