What is Repentance & Sign of Undefeated Sin Nature
So what is Repentance?
It means changing an act or sets of acts or the process or procedure of doing an act(s) by first changing how you view or see the act.
It is not just addressing the act but address the mindset concerning the act because it is very possible for a man to change his/her Acts but retain the mindset. Every sin(act) is conceived first in the heart/mind before thoughts are given to it to produce an idea for Its actualization and implementation(Matthew 12:34(b) “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”; Matthew 15:11 “Not that which goes in to the mouth defiles a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defiles a man”
True repentance begins with the heart and not the act.
Is this possible? Paul admonished the Corinthians says in 2nd Corinthians 6:14 says “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common or what fellowship can light have with darkness? And then in verse 17 it says “Therefore come out from them and be separate says the Lord…” these Believers profess Christ with their lips and actions but their thoughts and desire had nothing to do with Christ Jesus. Isaiah 29:13 says “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me” The Lord in Matthew 15:8 repeats this scripture saying, “These people honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me.”
Do not be surprised that Believers befriend and associate with unbelievers. Yes, they go to Church like you do, hear the gospel like you do and even carry out other godly and good acts like you do but inwardly in their hearts, they are still in love and attached to old and sinful habits; habits and way that the society might love but God hates either because they are trying to please people around them… Paul says in Galatians 1: 10 “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ?” and the book of James says in James 4:4 “You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God. Therefore, anyone who chooses to be friends of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
While for some is because they still cherish their old ways and habits. In Genesis 19:17, the Angels told Lot and his family… “As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back and don’t stop anywhere in the plain…” They are to flee (repent) from Sodom and Gomorrah (sin). She left (repented) but in verses 26 “But Lot’s wife looked back and she became a pillar of salt.” So why did she look back? Sodom and Gomorrah was a terrible place and she was instructed not to look back, so why did she?
Though the scripture does not say why she looked back, we could guess she secretly loved and missed the place (being her home town) or maybe she looked back for some other reason, I don’t know but like the Lord Jesus said in Luke 9:62 “And Jesus said unto him, no man, having put his hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God”
