To be progressive is good. Advancing with the times in the worship of God is great. Taking service of God to a new, exciting and higher level is good. The world is changing/evolving and the times are no more the same as before. There are more innovative and dynamic ways now to share the gospel.
But the question is; Does it matter if the church adopts a new, exciting and innovative way to worship “Jehovah God” if those ways have their origin in ancient ritual to demons and other dieties?
Does God really CARE about what goes on in worship and honor to Him in so far that it is new, people love it and it fills the churches up with “lost soul”(I wonder whose soul is lost?)
Take for instance, does God bother whether or not we celebrate the Valentine’s Day holiday in so far as it brings a lot of youths to the church on the 14th of February?
Notice the following warning God gave to ancient Israel.
“When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘HOW DID THESE NATIONS SERVE THEIR GODS? I ALSO WILL DO LIKEWISE.’ “
“You shall NOT worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods . . . ”
Deuteronomy 12:29-31, (NKJV)
Note that the danger in this passage is NOT the worship of other gods. That point was clear and well understood.. Exodus 20:3.
The danger here is adopting new, exciting and innovative way (used to worship or honor other gods) in order to serve and worship the true God.
Again, the true origin of Valentine’s Day and its symbols are rooted in the worship of false gods. It has no Biblical basis. It’s fertility ritual to some diety which includes blood sacrifices which the red color symbolises….It’s actually a pre-Roman empire ritual called Lupercarlia….read it up.
These innovative church practises might seem insignificantly trivial but with God, when He says “don’t add and don’t subtract from His commands“…He means it.
Also it includes the kind of clothes we wear, the kind of music we sing and the kind of dance we engage in….All these might seem “excessive“ but that’s the instruction.
Being progressive is dangerous when the Holy Spirit is not the One directing the progress.
Those who celebrate the holiday and engage in this thought pattern(progressive) and consider themselves believers in the God of the Bible need to take a prayerful look at what they are doing.
