Saw on my Facebook Page a post saying Papa Billy Graham died yesterday…the 21st of February, 2018 at the age of 99 years.
I am from Nigeria and we Africans show a lot of respect to elderly ones and most especially people who have accomplished great and might things by the many titles, praise-names, accolades, honorary certificates, positions, posts, etc we shower on them.
I have to say this because I referred to him as simply Papa Billy Graham.
This is not out of disrespect or dishonour because I could call him;
2. Senior Pastor
4. General Overseer
5. General Superintendent
8. The Great Man of God
But I simply called him Papa because of the many lives he has truly birthed in Jesus Christ , nurtured in Christ, guiding in righteousness and totally changed by his tenacious pursuit of the kingdom of God, through and for our Great Papa(Jesus)…Like the saying goes “like father, like son”
So what title do you call such a person as him without doing injustice to the rest of his many personalities in Christ that you are not aware of?
For me, Papa encapsulates it all and befits all he represented in Jesus Christ and most especially his age.
Matthew 7: 20 says “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
John 3:6 “… and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
By Papa Billy Graham’ s fruits, we know He was born by the Spirit.
1st John 5:4 says “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world:…”
By Papa Billy Graham’ s fruits, we also know He overcame the world by the Spirit of God.
I definitely cannot come close to what you have done through the help of the Holy Spirit of God but I pray to do the most that I can and pray to see you when my time on earth is up.
No Goodbyes Sir but lots of Thank You’s
