Spending the Prosperity Acquired:
Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.
1st John 1:5-7
And this is the message which we have heard from him and announce unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.
All these Scriptures emphasize the same thing; that since we have given our lives to Jesus(The Light), we ought to live like Jesus(The Light). Living like Jesus means doing things and thinking about thing the way Jesus did… 1st Corinthians 2:16 “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. This including how we spend our monies, wealth or Prosperity.
Again we go back to Luke 12: 16-21 and see how the Rich Fool spent his money…
“…And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry.”. The Rich Fool was going to spend all his wealth on himself and himself alone. He was stingy and not willing to help others who are poor and needy. He was not ready to reciprocate God’s financial blessings into the life of others. Are you like the Rich Fool whose only concern is Me,Myself and I?
God knows that you have needs and personal desires that you want to fulfill with the wealth He has given you but God wants you to realize that those things are good(brand new car, beautiful house, schooling with ease, travelling with ease, good clothes, etc) but they are not all that matters in life. There are other aspects of life that are more relevant and most important than the material aspects to life which is all about Self indulgence, Self appeasement, Self satisfaction, Self glory, etc. …. Ecclesiastes 1:2-3 “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
The Spiritual aspect to life is about giving; sacrificial giving, unconditional love for God first and for man second.
So how does God expect believers to spend the wealth He has given them?
Since we are children of God, we ought to be generous to fellow humans in the spending of the wealth He has given us because God was generous in giving us His best(His Son) and He gave us freely and so expects us to give freely too…Romans 8:32 “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things?”
Matthew 10:8 “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely ye received, freely give.”
The following Scriptures reveal God’s heart towards us been generous to one another especially to who are less fortunate financially;
“And if thy brother be waxed poor, and his hand fail with thee; then thou shalt uphold him: as a stranger and a sojourner shall he live with thee. Take thou no interest of him or increase, but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee. Thou shalt not give him thy money upon interest, nor give him thy victuals for increase.”
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
“If there be with thee a poor man, one of thy brethren, within any of thy gates in thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy poor brother; but thou shalt surely open thy hand unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need in that which he wanteth.”
“Blessed is he that considereth the poor: Jehovah will deliver him in the day of evil. Jehovah will preserve him, and keep him alive, And he shall be blessed upon the earth; And deliver not thou him unto the will of his enemies. Jehovah will support him upon the couch of languishing: Thou makest all his bed in his sickness.”
“Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”
“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. ”
“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.”
Also giving to the promotion and propagation of the knowledge of the kingdom of God through the preaching of the message of the gospel of Jesus, His Salvation from Sin and Death and His second coming. We ought to give with a heart of gratitude and a cheerful heart for being saved by Jesus and loved by God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4: 15-19
“Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
2nd Corinthians 9:7
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”
So be aware of the device of the devil I have called the Midway House of Illusion where you make wealth by an unrighteous means even though it may be legal and legitimate, spend all of it on only your desires and fantasies and then bring a little part of it to the church to satisfy your conscience that God is happy with you.
God is only happy when you make money His way and spend money His way.
That is why the Rich man in Luke 12 was called a Fool.
Stay knowledgeable and blessed.
