1st Chronicle 29: 11-16

I was reading the Bible and I came across this scripture in 1st Chronicle 29: 11-16 and it reads thus:

“David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, “Praise be to you, Lord , the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, Lord , is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord , is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you.”

I was amazed at this verses and wondered why we still don’t understand the right way to giving God offerings… (read my article on My Sacrifice or My Heart).

From verse 14 to 17 drives home clearly the point that we give to God our offering in gratitude of His splendour, His Beauty, His Majesty and His Love and benevolence towards us and NOT BECAUSE HE OWES US TO GIVE US BACK “DOUBLE OR TRIPLE” OF WHAT WE GAVE HIM.

I hear people say giving offering or tithe is a “Kingdom Investment”. No!!!, it’s not an investment because like David said in the scripture above, the “monies” given actually all belong to God in the first place.

It is saying “because Mr. A returned a tiny part of what Mr. B gave him in the first place, Mr. B now owes Mr. A to give me more”….that does not make sense. But the problem is Mr. A does not realise that all he has actually belongs to Mr. B and so he is not doing Mr. B a favour by giving Mr. B a tiny part of what belongs to Mr. B.

God is not the stock exchange market or a money doubler, He is not a Bank or Financial institution or an investment agency… No!!!, He is NOT.

Give with a David-Inspired-Understanding” that…”“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you.”

God Bless you.
