YOUR TIMING?

I have been silent this season because of the many preaching and sermons on/of this particulary time of the year especially about 2018.

Man has been able to develop for himself ways and means to live and co-exist with one another. One of such means is Time Measurement and Management

Time Measurement and Management  enables man to fix events, plan ahead, keep appointments, schedule tasks, organize programmes, determine and predict outcomes, etc. To aid man in these ventures and many more, he has created the clock, wristwatch, calendars, time tables, etc

All these are good and it is in line with Psalm 82:6 “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.” which Jesus reiterate in John 10:34 “Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”

Because Genesis 1:26 says “Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness,…” and one of the likeness of God is in Ecclesiastes 3…Time Creation, Measurement and Management but there is a problem and that problem is why I am silent at seasons like these; Christmas and New Year.

We calculate, estimate and make projections based on concrete dates and time… We have 1hr to 24hrs;We have 12am to 11pm; We have Monday to Sundays….We have Weeks; We have Months(January to December); We have Years, Decades and Centuries; We have  National Holidays, Religious Holidays, Easter Holidays, Christmas Holidays and New Year Holidays which all have specific dates.

But God’s plans and agenda holds and unfolds by seasons and the happening of events and not by our own kind of timing.

For instance, the birth of Jesus and His eventual glorification was predicted by the Prophet Isaiah and Daniel but the month, year or day was never known…Isaiah 9:6 :For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” and  Daniel 7:13-14 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”

The answer to Zechariah’s prayer for a child came when Zachariah was not expecting it but it was to God the unfolding of an event, the birth of a forerunner to Jesus.

All of Daniel’s vision never had  a date, specific month or year to them…Daniel 7:23 “He gave me this explanation: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth…”… when(day, month, year or decade) will they appear on the earth? We were not told.

Jesus even went further to confirm a distinction between our time measurement and management approached and God’s….Matthew 16:1‭-‬3   “The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.  He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’  and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

In Matthew 24:3 The disciples of Jesus asked Him a question  “As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

And Jesus spent quality time telling them but there was no Monday or Wednesday; September or March; no 2009 or 2014 or next week or any of our time management medium. It was soley seasons and unfolding events.

Unfortunately many of us have reduced God’s promises and plans into specific month, specific year, specific hour or day. This is a great source of disappointment to many believers because when those days come, nothing happens.

We cannot blackmail or force God into doing a thing at our own specific time simply because we lack understanding…..1st Chronicles 12:32  “from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do—…”

We All know Jesus was not born on the 25th of December, He was not crucified and did not resurrect in the month of April and there is nothing new about 1st January 2018 to God. Whilst it seems we have succeeded in putting a specific date and time to the above plan and promise of God(because they had already been fulfulled thousands of years ago) we are now unfortunately attempting same in our daily lives with the personal promises and plans God has given to us and the church. Hence the many disappointments.

We further complicate things by adapting the testimonies of others into our own expectations with specific dates and times for its actualization and that too leads to disappointment.

HEAR THIS: Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away”

EVERY PROMISE, PLAN AND WORD OF/FROM GOD SHALL BE FULLFILLED IN THIS LIFE AND INDIVIDUALLY IN OUR LIVES BUT NOT ACCORDING TO OUR TIMING AND CANNOT BE UNDERSTOOD AND EXPLAINED BY OUR TIMING MEASUREMENT AND MANAGEMENT EXCEPT GOD DEEMS IT SO.

So what should we do?

1. Love God and show the people around you the love of God inside you…Luke 10:25‭-‬27  “On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”   “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”  He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ ; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

2. Have Faith in GodRomans 1:17 “For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”…..Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

3.  Pray always..Luke 18:1 “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”…1st Thessalonians 5:17 “pray continually,”

4. Steer clear from Sin(stop sinning).. Romans 6:12‭-‬14  “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”

When you concentrate on doing all these, the promises and plans of God for your life will come to pass when the season is right by God rather than spending time pegging God’s promise to a specific date.

It’s like the bible, each book was written in one continuous scroll by its writer but we broke it down and made it into chapters and verses.

To God, the world is in seasons and times, but we have broken it down to days, weeks, months, years etc.

Don’t break down the timing of God’s promise and plans for you into specific dates and hours; specific month and year.

LET GOD DO HIS THING FOR YOU.

Is 2018 your year to prosper?

Is it your year of promotion?

Will your trials and temptation end with 2017?

Will you have your desires fulfilled in 2018?

Will your turn-around and breakthroughs happen in 2018?

Is your local church saying you will receive a particular kind of blessing or deliverance in/at a certain month or in 2018?

To all these questions, I believe God wants us to know that in so far as they are His promises and plans, they will come to pass but at His season and not our timing.

Walk into the 1st of january 2018 like it’s just any other day and live the rest of 2018 serving God fervently like you have never done before and God will do the restbat His time…Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
