The Christian walk is a journey because we keep evolving as we keep growing both physically and spiritually in faith in our relationship with God but to what end is the journey, one may ask? To go to heaven? Or live a blessed life on earth.
But a journey has a beginning and an ending, it’s fixed and has a duration no matter how long it takes but when we consider the scripture in Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” which indicates that we were living/journeying before we were born and John 14: 2-3 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. which indicates we will continue living/journeying after we are dead on earth, life can now be see as not just a journey but a continuum and again we ask, to what end?
Now Jesus said in John 14: 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. This is in line with Hebrews 12:2(b) which says fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
So we know two things for now;
Firstly Jesus is the beginning of our journey back to God
2ndly He is also the helper along our journey back to God
But the interesting thing about this journey is the dialogue between Philip and Jesus. Philip asked Jesus in John 14:8 “Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”…The father is the end of the journey. And then Jesus replied in John 14:9-10 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. This scripture is confirmed in Colossians 1:15-20 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
This further reveals Three things:
1.Jesus begins the journey,
2. Jesus helps us along the journey
3. Jesus is the end of the journey.
But We now understand that the Christian walk is not just a journey but a continuum, the question is” What’s the purpose of the Continuum when we get to the end of the journey because the continuum has no end?
John 17:3 says Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. And Revelation 1:8, 17-18 says “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”….“Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.)
These two scriptures talk about eternal life, THE CONTINUUM and Jesus being the the Eternal life itself. Jesus does not just begin the journey, help along the journey and is the end of the journey(all here on earth)….1st Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. Jesus is the JOURNEY ITSELF (here on earth) but He is also the CONTINUUM after life….Why? 1st John 3:2-3 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
Being like Him is WHAT THE JOURNEY IS ALL ABOUT…and it was in the first and original blueprint of our recreation.. .Genesis 1:26-28 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
So everytime you go to church, hear the word, pray and believe God, preach the word, evangelize, etc, know that it is for just One purpose, to be like Jesus who is the exact example of the glorious Adam(not the fallen Adam)
Are you like Jesus now or striving to be? May God help us to be like Jesus.
